Final call in Timor
DSTO has completed its operational analysis
liaison support role in the Timor theatre
as the ADF commences its drawdown of
troops. Scientists deployed to East Timor
made their final video-teleconference call
to DSTO's Operational Support Centre in
Edinburgh on September 25. After more than

more than 175 tasks.
Better at Bahasa
THE use of the Indonesian language, Bahasa,
by Defence Force School of Languages
students has been strengthened following a
two-week training program in Bandung, West
Java. This formed the final stage for students
in Melbourne and Canberra who completed
38 weeks of language training to be used for
joint exercises, operational deployments and
overseas engagements. Twenty-two students
from the three services visited an orphanage,
taught at schools, visited a training centre
for the unemployed, and organised cultural
navigation tasks to practise language skills.
MORE than 1.5 million courses have now
been completed using Defence's corporate
learning management system, Campus.
Outgoing Director General Defence Learning
Branch BRIG Peter Gates said with Campus
recording 317,640 course completions in
the last financial year, the benefits of an
e-learning platform for large scale training
requirements were wide-ranging.
Revved up for charity ride
MOTORBIKE riders from Canberra took part in
the annual Snowy Ride on November 3, which
raised money for childhood cancer research.
Ride organiser Paul Brealey said another ride
to Cairns in May 2013 was being planned and
any Defence member or ex-member, ADF or
APS, can join by contacting him on the DRN.
