HMAS Parramatta's ship's company
has celebrated two important milestones
with great fanfare.
The crew celebrated the ninth anni-
versary of the ship's commissioning on
October 4 and also the announcement of
the Sailor of the Year award.

birthday was held in the ship's hanga
while 'Strike Deep' was alongside at
Fleet Base East.

CMDR Cannell presented the Sailor
of the Year award to ABEW David
Newtown in recognition of his outstand-
ing work ethic and dedication.
"The annual award is presented to
the sailor who has demonstrated the
most outstanding display of Navy values
and has gone above and beyond in their
normal duties throughout the year,"
CMDR Cannell said.
Parramatta was laid down at
Williamstown in Victoria on April 24,
1999, and commissioned into the Navy
on October 4, 2003.
She was launched on June 17,
2000, by Mrs Green, daughter of XO
Parramatta II LEUT George Langford.
AN open day and art show marking
the military's departure from Fort
Queenscliff in Victoria, after 152
years, will be held on November 17.
The open day will feature tours,
firing of the historic guns, military
re-enactments, performances by the
Australian Army Band -- Melbourne,
displays and other activities.
Serving and retired Defence
personnel can also submit artworks
to "Conflict and Compassion: Art
From Peacekeeping and Active
It will showcase the talents of
Defence artists, whose works depict
their operational and service experi-

Grant has been commissioned to
complete a series of paintings com-
memorating the departure of the
military from Fort Queenscliff.
Selected works will be available
for sale with 20 per cent of proceeds
going to Legacy.
