RUNNING three half marathons in
three weeks has seen LCDR Lincoln
Trainor, of HMAS Cerberus, regular-
ly pounding the pavement for a cause
that is very close to home.
Alongside his brother, he will
take on the New York Marathon on
November 4, which was his father's
birthday, with the ultimate goal of
spreading awareness on bowel can-
cer and raising $12,000 for Bowel
LCDR Trainor's father, retired
petty officer Bo Trainor, a veteran of
three Vietnam tours, lost his deter-
mined four-year battle with the dis-
ease on February 17.
"Dad was all about living life to
the fullest, and although it was hard
emotionally, before he passed we also
had the opportunity to share many
wonderful experiences together,"
LCDR Trainor said.
"He had quite a bucket list."
The sons are now ticking off their
own bucket list, called 'Bo's List'.
One of the big tickets on the list is
running the marathon and raising the
money for such a good cause.
LCDR Trainor explained the rel-
evance of the goal of $12,000.
"Our goal is to get 1000 people to
donate $12," he said.
"As one in 12 people will be
affected by this disease in Australia."
LCDR Trainor has been following
in his father's footsteps his whole life
and has completed his own impres-
sive 17 years of service with the same
zest and determination for life as his
Unfortunately, he has also shared
similar medical issues and although
he does not have cancer, he is 20
times more likely to get it than most.
