THERE'S an old saying that
you don't know what you don't
know. And that is what's driv-
ing a proactive move by the
ADF to get to know its reserv-
ists better -- in particular their
The ADF's Civil Skills Data
e-survey will enable the Navy,
Army and Air Force to see the
civilian qualifications, skills
and experience available within
the ADF workforce.
Take PO Nerida Godfrey
for example. She's been part
of Defence for 40 years -- in
and out of uniform -- and has
jumped at the opportu nity to
tell the ADF more about the
civilian skills she has developed
along the way.
PO Godfrey is cu rrently a
specialist administration offic-
er at Headquarters Northern
Command in Darwin, serving
as a reser vist.
Her main role is to support

"I work reserve days in my
current position but have previ-
ously been on continuous full-
time service as well as 16 years
as a permanent member of the

"In my 40 years involvement
with Defence I have also served

With all that background,

you bring to the table."

MEMBERS being relocated may
unpack their own boxes and still be
covered by Toll's warranty for domestic
removals from April 30.
Personnel will be asked to choose
if they want a full unpack (where the
removalist unpacks all boxes) or a
partial unpack (where the removalist
unpacks boxes containing breakables,
with the member unpacking the rest).
ADF members can still access the
same unpacking options as they cur-
rently do, by indicating their unpacking
preferences when completing their relo-
The change allows members to
unpack their own effects, confident in
the knowledge that any removal-related
breakages will be covered by warranty.
A trial in mid-2011 was well
received by personnel, as many pre-
ferred to unpack their own effects and
had previously done so with the risk of
not being covered by warranty.
The change is part of an effort by
Defence to gain savings with revised
contracts that match existing behaviours
and reflect members' changing needs.
Savings generated by those who
choose the partial unpack option will
contribute to savings targets in the non-
equipment procurement stream of the
Strategic Reform Program.
Currently, Defence pays for all
members to have a full unpack regard-
less of whether they use it.
