THE Navy's newest aircrewman were
awarded their wings following completion
of Aircrewman Rotary Course 04 (ARC 04)
late last year.
The presentation ceremony was conducted
in the Fleet Air Arm Museum at the Naval Air
Station HMAS Albatross in front of the gradu-
ates friends and family.
The Reviewing Officer representing
COMFAA, Captain Chris Smallhorn, made the
presentations, which also included the award-
ing of course dux to AB Dylan Skipsey who
was additionally promoted to leading seaman.
To achieve their wings, LSA Dylan
Skipsey, LSA Aaron Smits and LSA Adrian
van Moolenbroek completed nine months of
training at the Albatross-based 723 SQN.
The ground modules of the course con-
sisted of: combat and environmental survival
training, helicopter underwater escape train-
ing, air traffic control, aviation medicine and
The airborne phase was conducted in the
AS350BA Squirrel and required the trainees to
perform winching, external load lifting, navi-
gation and overland/sea search and rescue.

CMDR Matt Shand sees an exciting future for
the newly qualified aircrewman.
"Whether you're a pilot, AvWO, aircrew-
man or maintainer, the introduction of new
capabilities means now is a great time to be
entering the Fleet Air Arm.
"The introduction of new capability is
under way right now with the MRH 90 replac-
ing the Sea King in the maritime utility role,"
CMDR Shand said.
This will continue from April with the
Bell 429 replacing the Augusta 109E as the
RMI aircraft, and later 24 MH-60R Seahawks
which will upgrade and replace the cur-
rent capability offered by 816 SQN's S70B-2

723 Squadron for consolidation prior to opera-
tional conversion onto either the MRH 90 or

AUSTRALIAN Clearance Dive Team Four (AUSCDT
Four) was recently announced as the winner of the
prestigious Gloucester Cup for the best unit/crew in
the Fleet in 2011.
AUSCDT Four was announced as the Gloucester Cup
winner in recognition of it efforts in all aspects of opera-
tions, safety, reliability and unit level training.
AUSCDT Four also picked up the Rushcutter Shield
for the Mine Hunter Coastal or Australian clearance div-
ing team foremost in mine counter measure operations.
HMAS Yarra was runner-up.
