HMA Ships Huon and Yarra recently
tested their mine countermeasure exper-
tise at an international exercise in South-

Countermeasure Exercise/Dive Exercise and
3rd Naval Medical Seminar, 2012, involved
15 ships, 16 nations and 1000 personnel.
On arrival in Singapore, members of the
ships' companies attended briefs on devel-
opments and research into new products

ships operated in separate task groups with
Indonesian, Singaporean, Malaysian and

After the sea phase, both ships' compa-
nies were among 300 personnel who par-
ticipated in Project Eco Frog, which demon-
strated how Singapore has used incinerated
waste to reclaim land around some of its
The exercise officially ended with a cul-
tural evening in which several countries
demonstrated activities such as traditional
dancing, martial arts techniques, as well as
providing dishes of traditional food.
After the exercise Yarra was challenged
to a friendly soccer match against HTMS
Lat-Ya, but was narrowly defeated.
Yarra and Huon left Singapore in com-
pany with USS Guardian to the port of
Makassar -- Indonesia's third largest city --
on the island of Sulawesi.
After several cross-deckings, Guardian
reported she was impressed with the skill
and professionalism demonstrated by the
Yarra and Huon make Navy proud
