HMAS Cairns' excellence in opera-
tions, safety, security and support
to the Fleet were recognised on
April 12 when Queensland Governor
Penelope Wensley presented the
2010 Governor's Cup to the estab-

This is the second time Cairns has
been awarded the Cup since its estab-
lishment in 2007. In 2008, the base

clean-up following Tropical Cyclone

the men and women of her base.

ute to CMDR Bob Heffey who was

2010. Without his leadership and
drive, we would probably not be stand-
ing here today receiving this award,"
Following Ceremonial Divisions,
RADM Gilmore held a clear lower
deck with all six Landing Craft Heavy
(LCH) crews where he presented the
LCH Proficiency Shield to HMAS

and unit level training during 2010.

of Wewak's crew.
Base awarded Governor's Cup
THE Senior Navy Women's Forum
held its first meeting for 2011 at
HMAS Harman recently, with a
presentation on successful strate-
gies for professional and business
women by Louise Carter, Chief
Executive Officer of Performance
The event allowed forum mem-
bers and other female guests, includ-
ing junior officers, Navy APS staff
and several senior Australian Federal
Police officers, to meet and network.
CMDR Jenni Heymans, Navy
Women's Strategic Adviser, said net-
working, along with mentoring, was
a crucial element of creating sound
pathways for women into senior
leadership positions across Navy.
"The Chief of the Defence Force
has demonstrated his support for
optimal outcomes for women in
regard to their careers by the inclu-
sion of mentoring and networking
programs for women in his Action
Plan for the Recruitment and
Retention of Women in the ADF,"
"The Senior Navy Women's
Forum and other networking pro-
grams established by Navy women
meet this intent and are fully sup-
ported by the Chief of Navy."
