AROUND 1200 sailors and
officers from the RAN and
RNZN have converged on
the West to participate in
Exercise Triton Storm II.
The comprehensive maritime train-
ing exercise began on March 8 and is
scheduled to end on April 8.
As an Australian Navy-led, joint
combined training activity, the exer-
cise involves HMA Ships Perth,
Parramatta, Ballarat, Toowoomba,
Sirius and Waller, as well as HMNZ
Ships Te Mana and Te Kaha.
RAAF and RNZAF assets, includ-
ing Hawks, AP-3C and P3K Orions
and Wedgetail Airborne Early
Warning and Control aircraft, are also

The exercise is providing
Toowoomba with the opportunity to
progress to unit readiness, in prepa-
ration for operational deployment in
the middle of the year.
Toowoomba successfully com-
pleted work-up progress evaluation in
the first week of Triton Storm and the
ship's company continues to train to
achieve unit readiness in April.
Toowoomba's involvement in the
exercise also provides the Fleet
Commander, through Sea Training
Group, a very detailed assessment of
the ship's capabilities as well as the
opportunity to improve.
The training and assessment sce-
narios are designed to be as realistic
as possible and require the ship's
company to complete tasks under
Toowoomba's CO, CMDR Andrew
Quinn, said he was very proud of the
efforts and enthusiasm of his crew.
"There's more work to be done but
we are achieving what we have set
out to do," he said.
"I believe we are on track to
