I WOULD like to express my
sincere gratitude for the help the
National Welfare Coordination
Centre (NWCC) and Navy gave me
following a death in the family.
I needed to pass news of the inci-
dent to my daughter who is serving in
HMAS Manoora and was at sea.
The NWCC operator was a very
polite person who immediately found
my daughter's file. He then took a
message from me and assured me
he would send a signal to the ship
Less than 50 minutes later my
daughter called me from the ship.
Being an Army officer I like to
make fun of my daughter's choice
of Service, however, the efforts of
N WCC and Navy were beyond
incredible. I am deeply thankful for
how you look after the families of
those at sea.

The economical home and con-
tents insurance is offered through the

changes to the Defence Service
Homes Act 1918.
The DSHIS has been providing
insurance to eligible veterans and ADF
personnel for more than 90 years.
The scheme is administered by the
Department of Veterans' Affairs.
Amending the Act has consider-
ably expanded the number of ADF
members who can enjoy the bene-
fits of the scheme. The changes were
made to support the introduction of
DHOAS, Defence's home loan sub-
Members don't have to hold a
DHOAS Subsidy Certificate or home
loan to purchase the insurance cover,
they need only to meet the eligibility
requirements of DHOAS.
The scheme offers both home and
contents insurance and policyhold-
ers can take out cover on any home
they own, including holiday and rental
They receive broad insurance cover
that represents good value for money.
It includes flood as well as storm dam-
age to fences, which are not usually
covered under home insurance poli-
cies. Accidental damage up to $5000
is automatically included.
The scheme provides the con-
tents insurance policy through QBE
(Australia). The policy includes an
optional accidental damage extension
for contents in the home.
